Tax Breaks for Business
Senator West voted to make any business with less than a million in revenue permanently exempt from paying the state franchise tax, ensuring greater small business growth.  Senator West believes that small business is at the heart of the Texas economy and that by maintaining a business friendly environment, our state will remain viable despite the national economy.

Bringing Opportunity Home
Senator West brought economic development opportunities to Dallas through appropriation of state funds.  These efforts, too numerous to mention, include the Texas Enterprise Fund, $12 million Nobel Laureate Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and authorization for revenue bonds up to $56 million for biomedical research at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas.

Opening the Door
Winning a contract with the state of Texas can be a make or break moment for businesses looking for growth opportunities.  To promote inclusiveness in the procurement practices of state agencies in working with Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs), Senator West created the “Doing Business Texas Style – Spot Bid Contract Fair” and regularly sponsors procurement workshops and seminars.  In addition, he has championed legislation that guides the practices for working with HUBs.
